STEM Curriculum

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County’s STEM Curriculum provides lessons which are intended to supplement current curriculum that supports Earth’s water standards. All of the lessons have been developed in alignment with Arizona Science Standards.

This curriculum provides elementary and middle school teachers with inquiry-based, hands on lessons that will assist in introducing meteorology, emergency planning, and engineering concepts to students. Additional grade levels are being developed, so check back or modify one of the current lessons for your students.

The lessons are a resource for you and can be changed or modified to fit the needs of your students. Feel free to use all or just some of the lessons provided. There are resource kits available with materials necessary for the hands-on components of the lessons. There are a limited number for checkout, so call ahead to reserve. Contact our Outreach Coordination Liaison, Ellen Spielman at 602-506-8773 to reserve a kit.

Each grade level unit includes:

  • Lesson Plans

  • Power Point Slides
  • Vocabulary Cards
  • Instructions for each hands-on activity
